Salary Range: $97,850– $136,734.00 (Steps 1-5 on a 10-step schedule depending on qualifications and experience), plus full employee fringe benefit package: health, dental, and vision plans and Pension and 401K retirement plans.

The CFT is the California affiliate of the AFT, AFL-CIO representing education workers in public and private schools and colleges, from early childhood through higher education.

The CFT Information Technology (IT) Director is responsible for providing data and technical support to the CFT and AFT Locals in California and manages a broad spectrum of CFT’s information technology needs. The IT Director also has direct responsibility for supporting CFT locals in developing and maintaining accurate data on members and potential members throughout California. This responsibility entails working closely with the CFT, AFT, and California CFT locals, including training locals in membership software programs and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Minimum five years of experience in information technology and data management, including experience in direct local and/or customer support.
  2. Knowledge of database systems, architecture design, implementation, and backup systems.
  3. Experience managing complex interactions between diverse ecosystems. Direct experience and knowledge of AFT systems and priorities is a plus.
  4. Practical knowledge of membership and organizing data sources, and data management system deployments.
  5. Knowledge of web-based platforms and technology.
  6. Experience with website management and design technology.
  7. Knowledge of emerging technology and software.
  8. Proven ability to learn new systems and integrate industry advances into the work.
  9. Ability to analyze service agreements with hardware and software providers.
  10. Ability to provide training on IT support systems to groups and individuals.
  11. The ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical individuals, including external customers and vendors.
  12. Knowledge of or experience with labor or union work is a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a resource for information management and technology, including the managing of internal lists, daily technical operations, and coordination of technology services.
  2. Provide technical support to CFT locals on AFT electronic membership platforms.
  3. Develop and provide data management training on AFT-provided electronic data management platforms and support locals in membership and dues tracking.
  4. Serve as a liaison between CFT and AFT’s Technology and Membership Department
  5. Provide data management support to the CFT Political Department for elections and campaigns.
  6. Provide data management support to the CFT Organizing Department during new organizing and membership outreach drives.
  7. Provide regular reports and updates on CFT membership, both on a statewide and by local basis.
  8. In consultation with the CFT Communications Department, establish and maintain electronic communications infrastructure, including email, listservs, and website technology for CFT.
  9. Serve as a resource for CFT and its locals on technology service vendors, services, and contracts.
  10. Establish and maintain relationships with IT providers, telephone companies, and ISPs, including AV companies.
  11. Provide technical support for the CFT website and CFT locals as requested.
  12. Assess CFT’s technology needs.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Membership in the CFT Field Representative Union (CFT/FRU) is required. CFT requires proof of vaccination as a condition of employment.
