The focus of the task force would be to 1. Develop recommended items for negotiations, 2.
To look at and suggest legislation both for pedagogical issues and well as workforce issues,
and 3. Develop ideas for member training on the AI. The argument for it would be the
infusion of AI into our schools system and our society and note the recent development of
AI. Add a line about equity in schools and the impact of inequality has when technology is
involved;” and
Therefore, be it resolved, that the CFT hereby establishes a Task Force on Artificial
Intelligence in Education with the following mandates:
1. Develop Recommended Items for Negotiations: The task force will identify key
areas where AI integration impacts the terms and conditions of employment for
educators and classified professionals including recognizing different impacts in
differing disciplines and classified professions. This includes, but is not limited to,
workload, job security, data privacy, and the ethical use of AI technologies. The task
force will recommend negotiation strategies that protect the rights and interests of CFT
members.
2. Suggest Legislation for Pedagogical and Workforce Issues: The task force will
review existing and potential legislative frameworks that govern the use of AI in
education. It will propose legislative recommendations that promote a balanced
approach to AI adoption, ensuring that it enhances educational outcomes without
compromising the integrity of public education, the teaching profession, or the rights
of students, faculty, and staff.
3. Develop Ideas for Member Training on AI: Recognizing the importance of
equipping CFT members with the knowledge and skills to navigate the evolving
technological landscape, the task force will identify options for ongoing appropriate
and comprehensive training programs. Training could include, but is not limited to, the
basics of AI, its potential application in education, ethical considerations, and possible
ways to safely and equitably integrate AI tools into teaching and learning.
4. Promote Equity and Equality: To specifically address and integrate measures that
ensure AI technologies contribute positively to bridging educational inequalities rather
than widening them. This includes the development of guidelines and practices that
promote equity in access, use, and outcomes of AI in education.
